Welcome to Humanitas English 9 and Humanitas New Media!
We make connections between these two classes to focus on developing powerful reading, and writing skills, and to give students the "21st century skills" they will need to be successful in high school (and beyond). English uses thematic units on The Golden Age, Coming of Age, and The Hero's Journey to develop and refine literacy skills that will be a foundation for success in high school. New Media gives skills for using the Internet, photography and video, and supports basic literacy.
We are ALWAYS available for individual help, and we appreciate working with parents/guardians!
Contact us off the Taft High School website (tafthigh.org) through the Staff Directory. Find Ms. Guss (for English) and Ms. Jacobs (for New Media).
We are proud to be a part of Humanitas! Humanitas makes learning go DEEP by creating connections between the disciplines. Ms. Guss and Ms. Jacobs know the 9th graders, but they are also part of the Humanitas team of teachers. We really get to know and care about your students, and we follow them through their high school years. Humanitas is the oldest SLC, the one LAUSD uses as a model for others to follow. Our interdisciplinary cooperative education model has been proven to be the most effective methodology! Our students rock the curriculum!
